Picking your numbers for Powerball or Power Play is easy. You can complete a playslip with your favorite numbers or ask the retailer for “Quick Pick” and have the computer select any or all of your numbers for you! Power Play is a special feature that allows a winner to multiply the original prize amount. Powerball players can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times (automatic 5x second prize or, during a yearly promotion, 10x). A player must choose the Power Play option when they buy their Powerball ticket, and then the ticket must match one of the non-jackpot prizes before the multiplier takes effect.
You can play a total of five (5) sets of numbers on one playslip. You can also choose to play in future drawings by using the same play slip for up to 52 consecutive drawings. To play consecutive drawings, you need to either select the “Multi Draw” box on the playslip or, ask the retailer for multiple draws at the time of purchase.
Be sure to check your numbers and verify your ticket cost prior to purchase. A Powerball ticket CANNOT be cancelled by the retailer after it is generated. The ticket, and not the playslip, is your proof of purchase.
You no longer have to select the payment option at the time of purchase. The tax law has changed to give you up to 60 days until after you claim the prize to decide whether you want cash or the annuity option. The second prize (won by matching five white balls in any order) is going up from $200,000 paid in cash to $1 million starting January 15, 2012. Any time you match the red PowerBall, you win. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 175 million.
